Status report on Volume 2. It has had its first round of editing and is now undergoing the second. I have money for the proof and corrections so there won’t be any more delays once the book is finished. Editing is a slow and tedious process that can’t be rushed. I appreciate everyone’s patience as I finish this most important step!
Over the weekend I have finished Sorcerer’s Apprentice volume 2. The next step is to get it edited and have a proof ordered, and once the proof is approved the second volume will be available on Indy Planet by the end of the month or so. If you’re waffling about whether to buy the book or just wait for the free webcomic I’ll let you in on a piece of information. It’ll be a loooong time before half the pages will be online. Even chapter 10 which is airing now won’t be over until probably end of February. If you buy the book when it goes for sale you’ll be able to read the rest of chapter 10 and all of 11 and 12 months before the pages will go online. So if you needed a reason, that’s the one.
In the meantime with book 2 done, my next immediate concern is…book 3! I’m going to use all my gumption and pluck to get the book done before Denver Comic Con this year. I’ll be able to go back to regular updates of my other projects such as Queen of Games, and I’ll also be taking commissions again, so if you’ve been aching for me to do you some art, I’m open for that again.
Okay! A new pen is on the way! I’ve been told by the company that it’ll take them about a week to ship it out and then another few days for it to actually arrive. In the meantime I’ve been working on the chapter art. If you want to see a preview of what the art will look like, I’ve been posting the sketches on my Tumblr account. Once the pen gets here the book will practically be done!
Hello my darlings! I finally know why my tablet has been on the fritz, it took a few days to get to the bottom of it, but the short version is the pen that goes with the tablet is broken and I need a new one. I was fully prepared to buy it off of Amazon as soon as I found out, but turns out that they are out of stock for the moment. I’d buy it elsewhere but it’s much more expensive on other sites and it’s not a cheap part to replace to begin with. So for now we’re just going to have to sit around a little bit more until Amazon gets a new shipment. Or I find another place to buy it that won’t charge an arm and a leg and still demand shipping on top of that.
Even with the current lack of access to digital stuff the book is still moving forward. The chapter art is just about settled and I managed to find a way to clean up the pages so they’ll be ready to be screentoned. Unfortunately you really can’t screentone without a working pen, so I really can’t work without it. I’ll keep everyone updated on everything so keep following me on Facebook and Twitter for the latest news.
Listen dear children to my story of woe and amazement. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that not just Sorcerer’s Apprentice, but pretty much all my projects run into some major pitfalls, almost like that old game Pitfall. Delays, unexpected hiatuses due to health, projects and contracts falling through. And this time around there’s no exception. Over the weekend I was pit and primed to finish Sorcerer’s Apprentice v.2. Just 25 pages of text and screen separated me from victory and a short vacation. But after I finished screening chapter 11, I went to take a quick break for lunch. When I return my tablet started behaving incorrectly. I tried reinstalling it several times, and then downloaded the new driver only to stop having it work for lefties like myself. I’ve emailed the company and their response time is 1-2 business days and right before New Years. Well, let’s say I have no idea when I’m going to be able to work on the book again. Or pretty much any of my projects again. Since this a software issue and not a hardware problem, it really doesn’t make much sense to buy a new tablet (especially since those suckers ain’t cheap). So pretty much my only option is to sit back and wait and see.
Well, I guess I’ve been whining for a vacation. The good news is that my tablet issues don’t affect the webcomic. Or at least not Sorcerer’s Apprentice. This does mean I’m toast for Midnight Menagerie and Queen of Games (yes, I had actually planned on working on that). But good Ol’ Victoria’s adventures will go uninterrupted for another couple of months. So I guess there really is a bright side to everything.
