Special 02: Rites of Passage pg.17

Birthday plans are put on hold until we figure out why there's a bunch of kids running around. Totally for the kid's safety and not to avoid dancing. No sir.

Pride Month Sale and Fun

For all of June all issues of Midnight Menagerie and my one-shot The Herbalist and the Landlord will be $.99 on Itch, Global Comix and Ko-Fi. If you’ve been on the fence about getting the PDFs, this is a great time to take advantage of the low, low price, plus! You’ll be supporting a disabled queer creator. The issues help me offset the costs of the website and other expenses.

Issue 13 and Global Comix

Midnight Menagerie issue 13 is finished and available on my Ko-Fi shop. At this point, the published issues are about 3 issues ahead of the webcomic version, so if you absolutely must know what happens, issues at 4 dollars a piece are the best way to scratch that itch. Not only are they full resolution and perfect for display on a tablet, they are edited and often contain bonus stories like The Night Shift and the Lighthouse Keeper’s Daugther.

Midnight Menagerie is also now available on Global Comix! This version is also the hi-res version, and for now, the first two issues are available for free! The rest of the series will be uploaded and optimized for mobile using their software, but that will be pay-to-read. Expect 2 new issues a month as I transfer everything over there

Disqus, Facebook and Shop

For the better part of close to two years now, my Bwillett Comics Facebook page has NOT been functioning. Every time I have logged, with the exception of once, I have been greeted with either a looping page that refreshes until my browser crashes, or an error page telling me to check back later. Because you can’t contact Facebook’s customer service except through Facebook’s customer service, I haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone to try to fix it. So it’s effectively dead. So for folks who have been following me there, I suggest you follow my Twitter Account instead if you aren’t already.

Because of my broken Facebook page, which was tied to my Disqus, I haven’t been noticing your guys’ comments. I have since updated my account so it’s tied to a username and password instead, so if you find that I’m responding to a comment you made six months ago, that’s why.

And finally, all current issues of Midnight Menagerie are now available on my Ko-Fi shop. That includes this current chapter that’s now running, the next chapter which concludes The House That Vincent Built and a new story line, The Girl With The Silver Scream. With the exception of Midnight Month where y’all get double updates, I will continue to release the series page by page every week. So if you can’t WAIT to find out what happens, for 4 bucks you can satisfy your curiosity, get to know what’s happening before everyone else and you can support the series and my other work. That’s a pretty damn good deal.

Update to Gumroad and Ko-Fi

Last week I announced my Gumroad store…right before Gumroad’s CEO decided to be a stupid human being, supported NFTs and violated his own terms of service by releasing people’s private contact information via his Twitter account. And in addition to other headaches other folks have had with the site since, I deleted my Gumroad account. The store is no longer available and if you click on the link it’ll tell you it’s an error.

For folks who still want to buy PDF versions of Midnight Menagerie (still the best way to read the series since it’s the best digital experience for the issues) I have since added the PDFs to my Ko-Fi account, PLUS I will be building an in-site store here at the website. The in-site store is going to take me a little longer to build because I’m not familiar with the plugin yet, but for now Ko-Fi is a great place because it’s a lot more user friendly, and it allows folks to give one off tips, unlike Patreon, which is effectively a subscription service not everyone necessarily wants to invest in. I get it. I have a LOT of great features on my Patreon account but not everyone wants to create an account for that site in order to follow my work. Ko-Fi doesn’t have that issue.

Gumroad and New Series

Hey friends. Because of Comixology getting rid of their Submit service, new issues of Midnight Menagerie will no longer be available on that platform. I mentioned that a couple of months back, but I didn’t say where new issues would be sold instead. At the moment, all 8 issues from Midnight Menagerie: Book One Such Things are available on Itch and starting this weekend, issues will also be available in my new Gumroad store. Gumroad for now will feature exclusively digital issues of Midnight Menagerie, and as well as my new one-shot, the romantic fantasy story The Herbalist and the Landlord. I will be staggering the release of Midnight Menagerie issues, releasing them storyline by storyline over the next couple of weeks, with the current storyline, The House That Vincent Built released in its entirety sometime in February. Then after that, all future storylines will be released on Gumroad before being released on either Patreon or the official site.

If things sell well enough, I’ll see if physical goods can be something that can be introduced some time down the line.

In the meantime, you all can check out my new series The Final Boss’s Son Loves the Protagonist. If you like Midnight Menagerie and its queer representation, you’ll like Final Boss’s Son, a queer love story between a himbo hero and a dainty demon prince set in an JRPG inspired world. It’s available on both Tapas and Webtoons, just like Midnight Menagerie.

Last Page of the Year And Everything to Come in 2022

Hey everyone! This week’s page marks the last update for the year. I won’t be posting a new page next Saturday because it’s Christmas and I won’t be working.

I want to thank everyone who’s been reading my series, whether it’s here on the site or the mirrors on Webtoons and Tapas. Back in 2017, I was pretty sure I was never going to do comics ever again, and certainly never thought I would ever pick Midnight Menagerie back up. But in 2020 when I came back with the series, I was humbled by the reception. Not only have a lot of my old readers come back to pick up where we left off, there’ve been loads of new folks who have joined the adventures of an anxious teenage boy about to start college and his crew of monster buddies who constantly have to get him out of mishaps.

I’ve been inspired to work like I’ve never worked before, and I can promise you a lot more Midnight in the future. In 2022 we’re going to keep going with the The House That Vincent Built, meet more monsters, learn more about Romero’s past and I’m going to work on a storyline that has been living rent-free in my mind since I first created Romero and Shawn all the way back in 2012.

2022 will mark the 10th anniversary of Midnight Menagerie and I have a feeling it’s going to be a very special year for Shawn and the crew. I’ll try to have all sorts of fun surprises (or at the very least, revamp this website a bit, you can practically see the cracks and cobwebs the coding is so outdated).

Remember that if you want MORE Midnight, join my Patreon page to get early access, sketch dumps and at the 10 dollar level commentary on all the pages past and future to learn exactly what demented thoughts went through my head to put this group of chaotic knuckleheads together.

In spite of everything I hope everyone had a pretty good 2021 and see you in the new year!

Big Things and Midnight Month

Hey everyone! A lot of updates to cover today. First off, Midnight Menagerie is now on Webtoons. I’ve had a handful of people contact me about posting Midnight Menagerie there and now I have. If you want to subscribe, just click here.

Secondly, next weekend starts October and that means: Midnight Month! For those new to the series, during the month of October, I get into the Halloween spirit with all sorts of extra bonuses. There will be double updates on the Main Site, Patreon and Tapas, bonus art on Tumblr and a special piece of art and special comic around Halloween. So keep checking the site on a regular basis to check all these cool things out.

Lastly, because Amazon is dropping Comixology Submit and ending the service, Midnight Menagerie will no longer be available on Amazon unless you already bought the issues previously. Instead, Amazon is switching all their comics over to the Kindle Store, and because Kindle has very, very vague rules about content, and is already dinging horror series left, right and center, I have decided that instead, Midnight Menagerie will be on Itch. You can still buy Midnight Menagerie on Comixology until the service shuts down in October, but buying it on Itch just makes more sense.

Book Two of Midnight Menagerie begins!

Hey everyone, today marks the start of a new chapter in the regular continuity of Midnight Menagerie, The House That Vincent Built. I’m super excited about this chapter and everything that’s going to happen. It’s been my favorite one to work on so far. It’s not only a big art stretch for me in terms of composition and color, this chapter allows me to really start digging into the core of Midnight Menagerie.

Before, none of y’all knew the characters or their motivations. I had to introduce all of them to get an understanding of why they’d do certain things or not others as bigger and bigger story lines start. Now that you know who Shawn is, I don’t have to waste any narrative time explaining anything and I can hit the ground running. That isn’t to say we won’t learn more about the characters, because we absolutely will! There is a lot going on in Shawn, Romero, Rob and even Wes’ past and their motives. I hope more of you folks will start reading the series and buckle up, things aren’t going to slow down any time soon!

New story arc and chapters begins soon

*blows dust off of update page* Okay, I’ve been really lazy about posting relevant updates on the main page, but there’s actually a lot going on. The current special, Lockdown ends today while next week will be a bi-week with just the cover (it’s a cool cover though!) Week after that HOWEVER marks the beginning of Book Two of Midnight Menagerie! The first Arc was called ‘Such Things’, this upcoming one is ‘The Things I Fear’ and will begin with the story The House That Vincent Built

The story has a lot going for it. Murder! Monster high dolls! Vincent Price! Fan fiction tropes! And more! You can either wait two weeks to read it, OR! You can subscribe to my Patreon account for $2 a month to start reading it now, or check out the full issues available on Comixology. Either way supports my work and keeps throwing dumb horror monsters making bad decisions to save their friend in your direction.
