Update to Gumroad and Ko-Fi

Last week I announced my Gumroad store…right before Gumroad’s CEO decided to be a stupid human being, supported NFTs and violated his own terms of service by releasing people’s private contact information via his Twitter account. And in addition to other headaches other folks have had with the site since, I deleted my Gumroad account. The store is no longer available and if you click on the link it’ll tell you it’s an error.

For folks who still want to buy PDF versions of Midnight Menagerie (still the best way to read the series since it’s the best digital experience for the issues) I have since added the PDFs to my Ko-Fi account, PLUS I will be building an in-site store here at the website. The in-site store is going to take me a little longer to build because I’m not familiar with the plugin yet, but for now Ko-Fi is a great place because it’s a lot more user friendly, and it allows folks to give one off tips, unlike Patreon, which is effectively a subscription service not everyone necessarily wants to invest in. I get it. I have a LOT of great features on my Patreon account but not everyone wants to create an account for that site in order to follow my work. Ko-Fi doesn’t have that issue.

Gumroad and New Series

Hey friends. Because of Comixology getting rid of their Submit service, new issues of Midnight Menagerie will no longer be available on that platform. I mentioned that a couple of months back, but I didn’t say where new issues would be sold instead. At the moment, all 8 issues from Midnight Menagerie: Book One Such Things are available on Itch and starting this weekend, issues will also be available in my new Gumroad store. Gumroad for now will feature exclusively digital issues of Midnight Menagerie, and as well as my new one-shot, the romantic fantasy story The Herbalist and the Landlord. I will be staggering the release of Midnight Menagerie issues, releasing them storyline by storyline over the next couple of weeks, with the current storyline, The House That Vincent Built released in its entirety sometime in February. Then after that, all future storylines will be released on Gumroad before being released on either Patreon or the official site.

If things sell well enough, I’ll see if physical goods can be something that can be introduced some time down the line.

In the meantime, you all can check out my new series The Final Boss’s Son Loves the Protagonist. If you like Midnight Menagerie and its queer representation, you’ll like Final Boss’s Son, a queer love story between a himbo hero and a dainty demon prince set in an JRPG inspired world. It’s available on both Tapas and Webtoons, just like Midnight Menagerie.

Last Page of the Year And Everything to Come in 2022

Hey everyone! This week’s page marks the last update for the year. I won’t be posting a new page next Saturday because it’s Christmas and I won’t be working.

I want to thank everyone who’s been reading my series, whether it’s here on the site or the mirrors on Webtoons and Tapas. Back in 2017, I was pretty sure I was never going to do comics ever again, and certainly never thought I would ever pick Midnight Menagerie back up. But in 2020 when I came back with the series, I was humbled by the reception. Not only have a lot of my old readers come back to pick up where we left off, there’ve been loads of new folks who have joined the adventures of an anxious teenage boy about to start college and his crew of monster buddies who constantly have to get him out of mishaps.

I’ve been inspired to work like I’ve never worked before, and I can promise you a lot more Midnight in the future. In 2022 we’re going to keep going with the The House That Vincent Built, meet more monsters, learn more about Romero’s past and I’m going to work on a storyline that has been living rent-free in my mind since I first created Romero and Shawn all the way back in 2012.

2022 will mark the 10th anniversary of Midnight Menagerie and I have a feeling it’s going to be a very special year for Shawn and the crew. I’ll try to have all sorts of fun surprises (or at the very least, revamp this website a bit, you can practically see the cracks and cobwebs the coding is so outdated).

Remember that if you want MORE Midnight, join my Patreon page to get early access, sketch dumps and at the 10 dollar level commentary on all the pages past and future to learn exactly what demented thoughts went through my head to put this group of chaotic knuckleheads together.

In spite of everything I hope everyone had a pretty good 2021 and see you in the new year!
