I don’t recall what time period Allister came from exactly but prudism wasn’t in full force until Victorian times. There were all sorts of revealing dresses and stuff made, medieval had fashions (particularly affluent nobles and townies), they didn’t just wear robes and full-length dresses.
Allister’s time was the late 14th century, just at the start of the early Renaissance (which the Renaissance is usually associated with the 15th century on, lots of historians associate the time with the start of the first outbreak of the black death, which was 1345)
Also, swimsuits are a new thing. Beforehand, people just swam in the nude because clothes were an obstacle in the water. Public bath houses had everyone in the nude.
