This year appears to be the year when all those mythic things that were never supposed to be finished, got finished.

Starcraft II has been released, after years and years. I first started playing the original Star Craft when I was in my last year of high school and back then my friends were talking all about the sequel taking forever to come out, and I graduated in 2004.

Then the most elusive of Vaporware, the running joke of the gaming industry, the man, the legend, Duke Nukem Forever has popped his head at this year's Penny Arcade Expo, leading to many collected bets and talks of the apocalypse.

In addition to this, back in June, Bruce Coville finally released the final volume of the Unicorn Chronicles, a series I started to read in third grade

With all these things finishing, a lot of people have been asking, well, with all these things over, what's left to make fun of for taking so long to release? Well, I for certain have one, and that would be: Kingdom Hearts 3. Testuya Nomura keeps promising that there will in fact be a KHIII, that he has ideas for the plot and that Disney is all for a 3rd console game continuing the adventure of Sora, Riku and Kairi after the events of the first two games, and their spinoffs, and will finish up the Xenahort arc. But here's the catch: Nomura said there won't be work on KHIII until Final Fantasy XIII: Versus is released.

Commence the headdesking. FFXIII: Versus was *supposed* to come out around the same time as Final Fantasy XIII, but it's been delayed time after time after time. Amazon doesn't even list a release date on their preorder and no word of a concrete release date in Japan, let alone overseas. What's terrible is a game constantly delayed, what's worse is a game that isn't even started because a previous game isn't finished. So instead of KHIII, Square Enix keeps tossing all these spinoffs at us. Granted, I thought 358/2 was a good game (regardless of what others have said) and filled a few holes from KHII and Chain of Memories' plots. I really look forward to the prequel Birth by Sleep, which is pretty much Kingdom Hearts: 0. However, RE:Coded seems a tad bit unnecessary, though might be fun to play and doesn't require me to buy a new system, but I am not excited for the 3DS game at all. Because this 3DS game appears to take place, yet again, between KHI and KHII. Just when you think all possible information between those two games have been filled, Nomura brings this game up. I don't need to know anymore what happened between these two games, I want to know what came *after*. What was in King Mickey's bottle? Did Axel really just die? Will they ever go to the Atlantis or Black Cauldron worlds?

At the rate this game is going, I won't even need to bother with a PS3, by the time KHIII comes around I'll probably have to buy a PS4. The good news is, by that time I probably will have a job

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Tonight marks a sad night for the Otaku community. Anime director and writer Satoshi Kon has died at the age of 47 from cancer.

Though not as familiar as Hiyao Miyazaki, Kon's works were surreal, thought provoking and over all brilliant. He was the master behind the films Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and most recently Paprika. His work was heavily inspirational to me and I am deeply saddened by this news.

Though he is now gone, his last film is still slated to be released next year 'The Dreaming Machine'.

Goodbye sir, and thank you for your greatness.

I will admit I was pretty late in switching to DVDs. In fact, most of my anime collection is still on VHS. I will not rebuy series I already own in entirety, and I have no problem in having some seasons all on DVD, while others all in VHS. Normally I'm pretty open to new technologies, but for me DVDs were a slow transition to make. I just didn't see what was so great about them. Granted, animated series look a lot better on DVD, but for the most part I could not really detect any grand difference between VHS or DVD on a CRT TV. And some recent events have really had me question the technology.

I finished the game and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. I have two more hidden puzzles to discover and try to figure out that damn room puzzle (for some reason I just can't figure it out!) but otherwise the game is finished. The art was really cool, the animation was awesome, the storyline was good (though a tiny bit too predictable by the end) and the puzzles were varied and challenging. One thing though is that the game felt....short. Granted, most of the games I play never actually have real endings (Pokemon, Harvest Moon) or are really, really long (40+ hours) but I finished Professor Layton, while trying to go for 100 percent completion including the extra puzzles in just a little over 15 hours. I for the most part like my games a bit meatier.

Still, I very much liked it and plan to get Professor Layton and the Game With Like Four Different Titles Depending on Where it's Sold (AKA, the Diabolical Box) as soon as I can.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Two things you need to know are that I am normally pretty patient of dubs and that I am not a fan of Hetalia: Access Powers (don't hate the series, just not that into it).

My friend who is a fan gave me a link to the dub done by Funimation and he was outraged, and I can understand why. The dub is truly and entirely awful. It's 4Kids bad. And I don't say that lightly.

Hetalia: Axis Powers, for those unfamiliar with the series, is a parody of world customs, politics and traditions by anthropomorphizing countries into people. The series is somewhat controversial since there is quite a bit of implied boyxboy relationships, and stuff that people might otherwise consider offensive. When Funimation got the rights to the series some people were upset over the idea that the company was going to dub it. Funimation promised its fans that they would do a good job in translating and releasing it, with promises of awesome boxed sets to please the somewhat rabid fanbase, and that the characters would have authentic accents.

Yeah. Right.

The accents are not just awful, they are so badly done they are downright offensive. China sounds like a caricature white actor from a 1950s comedy, Germany sounds English, and Poland's accent was so bad I had tears of rage in my eyes (My mom's Polish so I am very familiar with how a Polish accent sounds like!) Even America's accent was screwy, why he had a Cali accent I will never understand. Typically, the Western world's view of an American is some cowboy type, even in Hetalia, so the more appropriate accent would have been a Texas one. Then again the voices are so badly acted that may have been what he was going for.

This dub now has me in living fear of the Black Butler dub.

If you are a fan of Hetalia, I strongly recommend you write POLITE RATIONAL emails and letters to Funimation to let them know how horrible a job they did. Since the series isn't entirely dubbed yet there may be hope for a redo.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Don't get me wrong. I love the first generation of Pokemon, Pokemon Blue was the very first game I actually played and liked. It made me a gamer. However, with Black/White only a couple months away from coming out in Japan, the inevitable whining comes out.

"Red/Blue were the best!"

"I don't recognize any of the pokemon past the first 150!"

"You don't need to play any other games than the first gen"

However, when you get past the nostalgia, I have a whole list of reasons why Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow were *not* as great as you think they were.

I'm now over 10 hours and 100 puzzles into the game. I think I figured what the big mystery of the tower is, which is kind of disappointing, but I still haven't figured out the villain, though I have my suspicions. The Gizmo is actually really helpful at finding clues, though the Inn room puzzle is really hard to figure out.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.
