Batman Beyond #6 (2011)

Batman Beyond #6

Sorry to be late again, couldn't get to the shop until today.

Anyway, today marks the 6th issue of the new Batman Beyond series and part two of Industrial Revolution. First off the cover is incredibly BADASS. At least it would be if it were not for some really insulting blemish...

Follow up:

What the image is the publicity material, and not the actual cover. At the very top of the actual cover is a marquee advertisement for the new Green Lantern movie. Brooklyn Rage time. Listen, DC, I know you want to advertise this new movie of yours, but when half the book is ad pages anyway, there is no reason to stick an ad on the front cover. Comic book fans already know about the movie, and to put an ad for a movie that is only coming out once, when I have to live with this cover for the next 50 or so years is just plain insulting, especially on such an epic cover as Blight's hand crushing a Batarang in front of a nuclear warning symbol.

As for the actual issue, it's pretty damn good. A good mix of plotlines, character appearances and action. Blight had a storage building blown up with his son Paxton inside. Blight blows up the factory as revenge for his son's betrayal. Blight escaped from the submarine after it was sunk and came to a doctor who had previously worked for the company to help him. His condition is growing worse and he's still like a nuclear reactor, but the suit he wears helps. In the last second Batman stows the guy inside a Humvee, preventing them from becoming barbeque. Safe from 'splosions but not fire, they escape on a motorcycle--specifically the motorcycle the Dark Knight. Reference win. Terry takes Paxton into police custody. Bruce comes up with a plan to fish out the one behind the sabotage and the stock drops by claiming at the stock exchange that he announces to buy up the stocks and take the company off the market. Back at school Terry is trying to get Max to help him win Dana back, and she offers the same old advice: tell her the truth about his secret identity. Terry asks why Max is so jumpy and she snaps at him, and also mentions that Dana has a brother, which is news to Terry.

Dana is not totally pleased that her brother is home. He tries to act nice, offering to cook dinner, but she can tell something is off about her recently released sibling. He goes shopping and runs into the Jokerz in an alley.

At the stock exchange, Terry waits for the saboteur to show up for the announcement when he is ambushed by Blight.

One tiny complaint I raise is the plot hole: Blight was not trapped in the submarine for months on end. The sub was raised at the end of the episode and Blight wasn't inside. They are in fact ignoring the comic canon, but I suppose I can live that, since that means the split personality point with Terminal won't show up. This is me being nitpicky. Next month will be the conclusion, and it'll be interesting to see if Beechum manages to create a satisfying end to the arc, or drop the ball yet again.

Welcome to Nerdvana!

This blog is all about me, Bwillett, and the struggles of the daily life of a struggling comic artist and college student. In addition to being an artist and student, I also happen to be an comic book nerd, gaming freak and hardcore Otaku. The title is a reference from the Big Bang Theory, one of my favorite shows.
