Boy, the difference a month and an issue makes. Last month I went on a tirade against the issue, but this month has improved considerably, bringing the storyline back to the side of good.
Be warned! I give all the spoilers
Follow up:
Cover: 8/10
I think all the comments on Deviant Art have helped, because the artist finally made Terry not look so huge. He's still pretty bulky, but the not the behemoth who appeared on the first cover. The colors and pose are nice, though I don't really understand the little subtitles on each issue. Like last month the subtitle was 'Death at 3 Million Feet' and this month is 'The Dark Knight Returns?' They have nothing to do with the story
Art: 7/10
The art is certainly better from last issue but it still has some problems, including Terry in his Batman costume. They manage to make Drake and Grayson look pretty awesome, and the new Catwoman is cool, but they still make Terry too Asian, yet ironically, Dana, who is Korean, look white. Go figure.
Character Consistency 8/10
Way better than last issue, better accuracy to the canon. That's all I'm going to say about it.
Story Consistency 9/10
A million times better, they actually referenced Return of the Joker in this one, which is really impressive.
Story 9/10
The story for this issue and arc in general are really good so far. Terry is beginning to feel that Bruce is going to replace him with robots (not quite as lame as that sounds) because, despite his age does not want anyone else to be Batman (makes sense, Terry became Batman basically by saying 'you're not going the help me? Then **** you, I'm just gonna steal the batsuit) and Terry says after the person claiming to be Hush is brought in, he's quiting. As he investigates he talks to Tim Drake and on his way to see Dick Grayson, runs into Catwoman again. Turns out though that Catwoman is working for Hush. So we have a few things to figure out: who is Hush, what is new Catwoman's connection to everything, why is Bruce going nuts, and will Terry really quit? The last is the easiest, though this will only be a six issue miniseries, I'm pretty sure Terry will still stay the new Batman, my new theory is that Hush is ether Red Hood (Jason something-a-ruther--he was Robin #2) or Damian Wayne. Why one of those two? They both know Bruce Wayne is Batman, and this villain uses other villains' methods to kill each other. It would make sense that this guy acts/looks like Hush, but not actually be him.
Final 8.2/10
The story, art and cover are a million times better than the previous issue and they are finally adding more characters from the series by bringing in Terry's family and Dana, as well as Time Drake and Dick Grayson. The story is developing into something really interesting and I hope it stays on this course and not go back down Issue #2's road. I still want to see Max and Barbara Gordon, and the Royal Flush gang wouldn't be bad too, but I am not unhappy with where they are going.
