Okay Spoiler warning folks. Don't hit the jump if you don't want everything spoiled.
Rather that scaling out my view of this issue, I'm just going to go on a rant, because let me just put it this way, most of this issue did *not* make me happy.
Follow up:
The cover for this chapter was pretty good, looking much more like Terry is supposed to look like, but beyond the cover there was a lot I really didn't like about this issue. First off, they killed Armory and his family. While Armory was a pretty minor villain, and for the most part expendable, the way they handled it was not well done. They made his stepson (I forget his name) look like he was only twelve years old. In the series the step son was Terry's age, and quite a tall skinny guy, so it was entirely off. Secondly, when Terry learned Armory and the family was killed, he didn't have the proper reaction to it. Terry and the son were good friends, and they hung out with each other at school, and it even looked like Max might start dating him. So when Terry learns he's dead, he should have been upset about it, but there was no reaction at all.
If they bothered to do the research about the terms and lingo used in the show, why didn't they bother to do the character relationships as well? Also, outside of characters they kill off, none of the regular BB characters have shown up. Still no Commissioner Gordon, still no Melanie, still no Max (!) It looks like they are planning to bump off the one-time villains of the series, I just hope they don't kill off Stan and BoomBoom.
The art for this issue was lacking too. A lot of panels were really, really sloppy, and for some reason Terry looked Asian in this issue. The handling of Terry in this issue was not done well. In addition to the art and the Armory situation, the Catwoman scene drove me nuts. Don't get me wrong, I actually really like the new Catwoman, her costume is really badass, and she seems really tough, but the actual scene between the two made me cringe. First off, while Terry is a smartass, he mostly makes his snide comments to himself, Bruce or Max. When he fights a villian he doesn't banter with them, most of his humor is dark, and he takes being Batman quite seriously, he is *not* Spiderman but with the new Catwoman he was all happy and excited about it. And the dialog was just groan-inducing:
"I finally get my own Catwoman, I've waited all my career for my own Catwoman"
Oh, you mean the whole 2-3 years you've been Batman so far? *headdesk*
Second problem is that he was *hitting* on the new Catwoman. Terry only ever hit on other women when he was fighting with Dana. He never cheated on her. If the scene happened while Terry was out of uniform, I *might* have seen it happen, but the whole scene was so out of character that it made me angry. I really, really hope this doesn't happen again in the next issue, but DC, you're back on the list.
