Today was Free Comic Book Day and I headed down to Hero Headquarters like I normally day. Today was a great day. Not only did I get free comics, I also won the White Tiger graphic novel in a trivia contest. I'm a huge fan of Tamora Pierce's work, but I was a little skeptical about her writing a comic. Her work tends to be uber-super-feminist kick-ass girl power, and I wasn't sure how well that would translate, but she actually didn't do a bad job. White Tiger isn't spectacularly original, but the dialog is funny, and it's a nice mild commentary on heroes, and she meshes well with the Marvel Universe. And Deadpool pops in, so that's awesome.
In addition, at a local thrift store I found a Yugi-Oh tape and a Muppets DVD, and finally picked up Tsubasa 26. The series would be great if it weren't for that damn Oedipal storyline Clamp decided to throw in for whatever reason. Seriously, the clones I can live with, the alternate versions of each other I can live with, the Syaoran who looks identical to his father and falls in love with a girl who looks exactly and is named after his mother is just not kosher. It's like if Back to the Future went very, very wrong.
I didn't actually buy anything this year because I couldn't find anything, and Batman Beyond doesn't come out until June. Speaking of Batman Beyond, as many of my 3 readers know, I love the series. I like Batman, but I truly loved Batman Beyond. I've always wanted a Batman Beyond figure, and today I saw three, all of various price points and quality, and all of them were terrible! This a problem I've been running into for years, it seems no good looking Terry figure exist. They all seem to run into one of two problems, they are either to blocky, taking the cartoon style too literally, or make Terry waaay too muscular. I don't know why he's so hard to do right. Terry was a lanky, mildly muscular teen guy. He wasn't some tall demigod like the original Batman or Superman (heck, Bruce Wayne at 80 was taller and stronger than Terry) but the figures always make him look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. They can make decent Nightwing figures, why just use that body type? I guess I am forced to make my own. I just learned that I should not try to do a fabric body, the most expensive of the figures had cloth over plastic body, and it was the worst looking of the bunch o_O
