Gamer Diary: KH 358/2 Part Nine

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I haven't had much time to play Kingdom Hearts because of school, but with Thanksgiving Break I picked up the game again. Where I last left off was day 300, 58 days from the end of the game. And so far it's an exercise in frustration. The bosses in Neverland are a royal pain to fight, since all of them require flying. There are 3 major problems with flying.

Follow up:

1. You can't use dodgeroll or block. All the flying bosses have at least one kind of charge attack, meaning if you can't get out of its way (and a lot of time you can't because they are so freakin' fast) there is no way to defend yourself

2. Camera nightmare. When in flying, you have to keep constantly locked onto your target in order to see it. Controlling the camera when flying is an exercise in futility, and when locked on it is much, much harder to dodge the boss when attacking you.

3. You constantly have to hold down the d-pad. In order to catch up with your flying target, you have to constantly hold down the D-pad just to get close, and because the flying bosses are extremely fast, if you let off for even a second it gets out of range. Most of the other worlds it's the 'a' button that gets the most use, but in Neverland you barely use A until you are very close in range. And because of the speed issue again, the boss fights are reeaally long. I only fought the boss once (and lost) and had a thumb spasm that lasted an hour.

One thing I will give credit to the game, frustration aside, is that the developers made an effort to change up the worlds. One complaint I heard was that it's just going to the same worlds again as in KHI and KHII. This is true. But aside from Twilight Town, even the same worlds got changed a bit to have new rooms and new worlds. In Wonderland there are two sets of mazes that didn't exist in KHI (and were a lot of fun) and Beasts Castle you get to explore a few more rooms that weren't in KHII. As much as I hate fighting in Neverland, it's like a completely different world than from KHI. In the original Kingdom Hearts Neverland was just Hook's ship and Big Ben, but in 358/2 you get to see a lot more of Neverland from the actual movie, including Skull Rock.

Though my complaint still stands that there isn't enough focus on the Disney Characters.

I must admit that I like Xigbar more and more. In KHII I didn't have much of an opinion on him, he was a bit of a weirdo and a very hard boss fight, but otherwise he didn't even crack my top 10 of the Organization. That's completely changed. Xigbar a complete badass, and extremely funny. The way he saved Roxas's skin in Agrabah and Halloween Town with such coolness was completely awesome. I love his 'I really don't care' attitude, and how he treats everything as a joke--yet he does all these things to protect 'Kiddo'. And recently with all the talk about Birth by Sleep they released pics of Xigbar's Somebody Braig. And I have only one thing to say about it

Braig
Dyaaaamn.

You can totally see the resemblance, but Braig looks like Xigbar's son. I like Xigbar now, but still he's pretty geezer looking. Whereas Braig is well, smoking fine. (BTW, the pic was originally obtained from khinsider.com)

As for my favorite Organization members, the ranking goes as follows:

Axel-Larxene-Demyx-Roxas-Xigbar-Saix-Zexion-Xion-Marluxia-Laxaeus-Xaldin-Luxord-Vexen-Xemnas

and with that, I return to playing the game.
