Oh wow! This is major news so I just had to talk about it. Apparently the Disney corporation has purchased Marvel. This means that officially, Iron Man, Spiderman, The Runaways and all the other characters now belong to Disney.
I suppose this shouldn't be too much of a shock. For the last few months at least, several Marvel cartoons have been airing on Disney Channel, Toon Disney and Disney XD, and the relatively new series the Spectacular Spiderman got moved to Disney from CW last year. It's still seems kind of unnatural, but what does it mean in the long term? Hard to say. Most likely there won't be any changes in the immediate future. I don't think they will make Wolverine quit smoking or drinking, or that Iron Man will lead the Main Street parade--at least for the moment. But it is very likely that Disney will exercise some executive control in the future, especially in control of the movies. This may end up being a good thing, with fiascoes like Xmen Origins: Wolverine may be avoided because of licensing issues. I guess we have to see what happens next...
