I'm finally feeling better and back to normal (or at least mostly). That flu I had came back with a vengeance, forcing me to miss yet another week of school and thus skip work on Sorcerer's Apprentice.
I had to go to class early today to finish up an assignment that was due first thing. I would have finished it earlier but in grand Bwillett bad luck tradition, I caught the stomach flu or something. It might be the water, but every time I eat something I'd feel HORRIBLE. Anyway, after the assignment was turned in we all had to go down to this wheelchair store. The owner agreed to let us play around with some of the chairs to get an idea of how they work and the problems they have. Some people brought cars to school so we could be driven there, and the guy I caught a ride with had this tiny little Volvo with five people crammed into it. It was a tight squeeze, but luckily I didn't get the center seat, that was reserved for the guy who showed up late. Reminded me a lot of my childhood trips to Missouri.
When we got there we learned a lot about how those power wheelchairs work. They required a lot of design to make them easy to service and fix, I was pretty impressed in how they come apart. What I wasn't impressed with was some of their flaws. The manual wheelchairs got my sleeves all dirty, and at one point I got stuck in the power one. I was trying to go into a room and was too close to the door jamb and couldn't get my way out of it without scraping a wall. At one point I had to get out and drag the thing away from the wall so I wouldn't bang up the wall and the chair anymore.
We piled back into the Volvo and got back to the department first, so we decided to steal this little Hello Kitty doll that my friend keeps on her desk in the office (she works there as a secretary) since she wasn't back yet. The plan is to take pictures of it around town and email them to her. We'll give it back to her...eventually....
