'Twas the Week Before Finals

Well, school almost out for the semester, and not a moment too soon. I've been killing myself getting stuff done for this Housewares contest/final project for intermediate--and it seems like I'm the only person close to done. But after next Thursday I shall be free!!!!--at least until January 5th and I take that optional Adobe Illustrator rendering class I fought to get. Well, now that it's Friday, let's keep the tradition alive and do Epic WIN/Epic FAIL.

Epic FAIL! Britney Spears. You can't watch TV (including the nightly news!) without hearing about her. Doesn't anyone find it the least bit suspicious that less than a year after her breakdown that she already has another album ready and is so stable?

Epic WIN! Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories. I got it on Wednesday--but I have yet to play it, I've been way too busy, so at the moment the lovely disk is sitting by my table using its siren song to call to me.

Epic FAIL! Big Dog Text Books. It's this off-campus bookstore that promises to have better buy-back offers than the school, but when I went to sell my Psychology book they offered me SIX DOLLARS. When I bought the book from that store, brand new, it cost me over 130. That's not even 5%. I had to go back to the school, wasting an hour of travel time, to sell it for 40 dollars. I'm still getting screwed over, but at least not as badly.

Epic WIN! Dark Knight comes out next week X3. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm hoping that Best Buy will have as good a sale as when the movie came out to theaters, they had all the DC DVD sets for ridiculously cheap prices (which of course, I had no money to take advantage of at the time...). Maybe I can snag JLA or JLU or ideally that Batman: The Complete Animated Series boxed set that has been tempting me

Holy Lawsuit Batman! Being that I am a toy fanatic I've been following the story for years. Basically, Mattel, the maker of Barbie, was suing MGA, the company that made Bratz dolls for copyright infringement. This has been going on LITERALLY since the Bratz dolls were released. And for years it seems like it was Mattel's petty way of trying to beat a doll that was outselling Barbie dolls 3 to 1. But then some evidence turned up that took it from a petty lawsuit to a full-out scandal. It turned out that Bratz was originally Mattel's idea, or more precisely, Bratz was originally made by a designer who was contracted under Mattel. I don't know the internal details myself, but one could surmise that Mattel initially rejected the idea or the design, and that designer who created the Bratz sculpt went to work for MGA and pitched the idea to them, which became the Bratz dolls. That kiddies is a big no-no. Even if your idea was rejected, if your boss still made you make it, it's their idea, not yours. So now Mattel has won the lawsuit and now MGA not only has to stop producing all of their Bratz line, they have to give all their molds, drawings, sculpts and patterns to Mattel. MGA is now screwed, as Bratz was their signature line, and their best selling. It's like someone telling Apple they can't sell IPods anymore. MGA is of course appealing it, but it will be interesting to see what happens.

'Til next week.

Welcome to Nerdvana!

This blog is all about me, Bwillett, and the struggles of the daily life of a struggling comic artist and college student. In addition to being an artist and student, I also happen to be an comic book nerd, gaming freak and hardcore Otaku. The title is a reference from the Big Bang Theory, one of my favorite shows.
